CONSULTANCY IN QUALITY IMPROVEMENT OF CARBON ANODE (ALUMINIUM SMELTER)

We provide consultancy in the field of improvement of carbon anodes used for the production of primary aluminum.

* Cost reduction: a) Increase baked anode density and b) Reduce electrical resistivity, air/carbon-dioxide reactivity and dusting, rejection rate
* Quality improvement: Study the effect of different parameters (such as composition, granulometry, mixing, compaction and baking conditions etc) using artificial intelligence and identify conditions to improve carbon anode quality
* Innovation: Modify the surface properties of coke and pitch to utilize low-cost raw materials, develop simple tools to characterize raw materials, use of bio-coke to partially replace petroleum coke

Thus we are able to increase green and baked anode density, decrease electrical resistivity and air/carbon- dioxide reactivity significantly resulting in increase in electrical efficiency and reduction in environmental pollution.

* It may be noted that a decrease in electrical resistivity by 1 for an average current of 400 kA can save around 50 MWh (around USD 2500 considering electricity rate of around USD 0.05/kWh) during the life cycle of an anode.
* An increase in 0.01 kg/dm 3 density of an anode can save around 6-7 kg of Carbon per 1000 kg anode. A decrease in air and/or carbon-dioxide reactivity by 1mg/(cm 2 h) can save around 5 kg Carbon during the life cycle of the anode. It may be noted that a saving of 5 kg per anode may result in production of around 15 kg aluminum (revenue of USD 27 considering aluminum price of USD 1.8/kg). A saving of 1 kg Carbon can reduce Carbon dioxide emission by 3.67 kg.
